Who it's for
Best for advanced power players (4.0+) who can manage a hot face who play with a balanced two-handed/one-handed mix. The widebody profile gives you a generous sweet spot, the 13mm core delivers high pop with a tighter touch window, and the raw carbon face bites on spin shots.
Should you buy the Selkirk VANGUARD Power Air Epic?
Best for
3.5-4.5 intermediate-to-advanced doubles all-courters; balanced widebody with ProSpin+, controlled aggression over specialist extremes.
Who should buy the VANGUARD Power Air Epic
Buy it if you're a 3.5-4.5 doubles player who wants one capable all-court paddle from a top-two brand. The widebody build pairs an oversized sweet spot with ProSpin+ texture for controlled, aggressive drives - it rewards a player who's developing real shot tolerance rather than just keeping the ball in.
Who should skip it
Skip it if you're a true beginner or a committed specialist. Despite the big sweet spot it isn't an especially forgiving paddle and plays best in advanced hands, so a new player gets more from a softer starter. And if you've already decided you're a pure banger or pure dinker, a dedicated power or control paddle out-does its all-court tuning.
The main tradeoff
Balance is the feature and the cost. By covering everything well it specializes in nothing, so a committed banger or dinker will out-perform it with a dedicated paddle - and despite the big sweet spot it rewards developed hands more than a beginner's.
Is it worth it?
At $219.99 you pay for Selkirk's flagship Vanguard line and a build you won't outgrow. Fair if you value brand backing and a capable all-court paddle. The value all-court field at $100-150 gets you a similar feel for less if the badge doesn't matter to you.
